Some of the most outstanding high school shop projects in the state will be on display at the Third Annual Green Industrial Business and Career Expo on October 7th and 8th at South Seattle Community College.

More than 50 exhibitors will participate including the all-girl ShopGirls team from Granite Falls who built a car that gets 470 miles to a gallon of diesel, and the Energy Smart program at Heritage High School outside Vancouver where students research and produce biodiesel and solar power.

The Expo is sponsored by the Manufacturing Industrial Council of Seattle in partnership with a growing number of cosponsors.

Partners include the The Boeing Company, Nucor Steel, the Aerospace Joint Apprenticeship Committee, the City of Seattle Office of Economic Development, the Workforce Development Council of Seattle-King County, South Seattle Community College, the Puget Sound Industrial Excellence Center, the Seattle Public Schools, the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction for the State of Washington, the Imagine Tomorrow science competition at Washington State University, the Port of Seattle, Alaska Airlines, the Chena Hot Springs Resort and the Washington Industrial Technical Education Association (WITEA), a professional association of shop teachers.

Northwest Boat Builders Testing a Distant Market Germany
With their employment chopped in half by the recession, eight regional builders of high-speed aluminum river boats are turning to a new market for sales: Germany.

The eight companies, half in Idaho and half in Washington, formed an alliance to study potential European markets with help from a federal grant and the Clearwater Economic Development Association, of Lewiston, Idaho. Read More: The Insider Puget Sound Business Journal
