Viaduct Crunch Looms

Alaskan Way Viaduct

The recent traffic calamities caused by a one-day blizzard provided a reminder of the traffic disruptions that will soon occur on purpose as the effort finally beings to replace the Alaskan Way Viaduct.

Construction work to replace the southern portion of the Viaduct will begin in February, launching a period of several years that will see significant constraints on State Route 99, changing detour routes and an eventual temporary closure of this key north-south transportation route.

The Duwamish Transportation Management Association will host a community meeting on January 12, 2011, 8-9:30 AM. Thanks to the Seattle Mariners, the meeting will take place in the Diamond Club at SAFECO Field. RSVP for that event with Pam Romine via email or phone 206-762-2470.

The deadline for public comment on the EIS is Dec. 13, 2010. Comments will be responded to in the Final EIS, scheduled for publication in the middle of 2011. You can submit comments the following ways:
